Why Private Access to Weight-Loss Injections Matters
Delays to the NHS rollout of Mounjaro are leaving many eligible patients frustrated by long waits.
These delays look set to continue for the foreseeable future, which is why private access through trusted practices is more essential than ever. Private doesn’t mean irresponsible. Instead, it’s about timely, accountable and transparent care that can make a real difference, especially when delivered sooner rather than later.
Weight loss postcode lottery
From 23 June 2025, GPs in England were technically able to prescribe Mounjaro to patients with BMI over 40 and specific health conditions. However, news sources report that a staggering 29 of the 42 Integrated Care Boards aren’t yet offering it. This is creating what many describe as a postcode lottery. In frustrated communities where access NHS access to Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is either limited or unavailable, GPs report seeing patients in tears - frustrated that the medication has been approved but is still not available to them.
Meanwhile, analysis from the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change revealed that although NICE guidance would make around 3.4 million people eligible within five years, NHS England plans to restrict access to only 220,000 patients over three years, extending the full rollout across 12 years. This slow pace risks deepening health inequalities and leaving many without timely help.
Safe and structured private access
Access to weight loss injections via a private GP isn’t about jumping the queue or getting a shortcut. It’s about access to evidence-based care when public services can't deliver swiftly. At The Hove Practice we offer:

Structured follow-up and lifestyle guidance
Emphasis on treatment that is part of a holistic plan
Why weight management matters
Weight management isn't just about appearance: it's a cornerstone of long-term health. Evidence shows that even a modest weight loss of 5% can dramatically reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and several types of cancer, while also easing joint pain and boosting mental wellbeing. Proactive interventions in weight can prevent chronic illnesses, support better mobility and help maintain desired quality of life.
