HEALTH SCREENING
Cervical Smear Tests
Highly effective at preventing cervical cancer, our screening service tests for early signs before you have any symptoms.
DISCREET SCREENING AND RAPID RESULTS
Around 3,200 women in the UK are diagnosed with cervical cancer every year. Worldwide, it’s the fourth most common cancer in women. Screening can pick up early changes in the cells of your cervix that could lead to cervical cancer. Our experienced clinicians offer cervical screening to anyone over the age of 25 and we use the largest Independent laboratory in UK to process the test. Your results will be as reliable as those performed in the NHS.
Cervical Screening
We want to make sure your cervical screening is as comfortable as possible. Our consultation rooms are quiet and private, and our clinicians are dedicated to putting you at ease.
Cervical Screening Programme
Our cervical screening programme is offered for all women or people with a cervix aged 25 years and older, and we recommend screening up to annually.
Available testing options
High Risk HPV Only
High and Low Risk HPV
Cervical Cytology
Optional Sexual Health Testing
We offer up to 30 minutes for your appointment. This gives us plenty of time to explore any concerns you may have and offer all the support you need. We'll begin by discussing your pre-appointment questionnaire. This will help us understand your full gynaecological history so we can provide you with the best possible care.
It's important to remember cervical screening is for women who don’t have symptoms. If you have any symptoms you’re worried about, such as bleeding between periods or after sex, abnormal vaginal discharge or pain, please book an appointment with one of our GPs. Don’t wait for your routine screening appointment.
Your Test Results
We'll do our utmost to provide you with your results within ten days of your smear, and often sooner.
Gardasil 9 Vaccination
In addition to cervical screening, vaccination is a highly effective option to protect against HPV.
We're happy to offer the Gardasil 9 vaccination at The Hove Practice for individuals up to 45 years of age. This vaccine protects against 9 common types of the Human Papilloma Virus [HPV] which causes cervical, vulval, vaginal, throat and anal cancer, along with genital warts.
Vaccination takes the form of three vaccines given within a year-long period. Although it doesn't cure existing conditions, or completely prevent all types of HPV in existence, it has been shown to have a significant impact in reducing diagnoses amongst vaccinated individuals.
Please refer to Vaccinations and Immunisations for further information.
Sexual Health for Women
We're able to test for 7 common sexually transmitted infections from the same cervical sample, for an additional fee. This can be requested up to 21 days following your appointment, should you decide to request this after your visit. Please see our sexual health page for more information.
