Brighton Marathon 2025. Community, charity and good cheer!

Marathon day is always a special occasion in Brighton & Hove and this year was no exception.

After months of dedicated training, I was feeling ready and looking forward to the day - but sadly my ruptured right calf muscle had other ideas! With a heavy heart and a sore leg, I took the very difficult decision to pull out at the last minute. Despite this unexpected and last-minute setback, the day was still buzzing with energy, pride, and community vibes!

I’m thrilled to say The Hove Practice continued to be represented in my absence by my wife, Dr Alex Da Costa, who laced up her trainers and completed her first ever 10k on the day. Meanwhile, the rest of The Hove Practice team joined forces with Rockinghorse Children’s Charity and Stride Physiotherapy to man one of the loudest cheer points on the route! We cheered, clapped, whistled and whooped at the top of our voices, as runner after runner passed our Practice at miles 19 and 22 – no doubt some of their toughest miles.

Emma Henderson from Rockinghorse was thrilled to be with us:

“It really was the most fun we’ve ever had on a marathon day and I’ve already had some lovely feedback from runners saying it was one of the loudest cheer points on the route and really gave them a big boost."

The whole day was a wonderful reminder of how powerful community can be and how important it is to support the people around us, whether they’re patients, partners, colleagues, or runners - all pushing through the hard yards, physically, mentally and emotionally.

I’m also thrilled to share that, thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we exceeded our fundraising target! Having set out to raise £2,500 for Rockinghorse, together we reached a fantastic £2,702.
