Trucheck: the future of cancer screening is already here
Trucheck Intelli is a highly sensitive blood test that can detect 70+ types of solid organ cancers.
News that the NHS is piloting a new blood test to detect cancer early is hugely encouraging. As The Times recently reported, the test could spot multiple types of cancer before symptoms appear and “up to 15,000 patients with suspected lung cancer could benefit from the test each year”.
It's a hugely positive step – and one we welcome wholeheartedly. It also echoes our long-standing commitment to making ground-breaking advances in medical technologies widely available - to as many people as possible, at the earliest opportunity. That’s why we’ve been offering Trucheck Cancer Screening at our Practice since 2023.
Trucheck Intelli is an innovative, highly sensitive blood test. It can detect 70+ types of solid organ cancers, including many that aren’t routinely screened for by the NHS.
So if you’re worried about your risk or simply want peace of mind, you don’t need to wait for an NHS pilot to reach your area, or for initial health concerns to present. You can take control of your health today.
Designed for early detection – even when you feel perfectly well
One of the greatest challenges in cancer care is that many cancers don’t cause symptoms until they’ve already spread. Nearly half of cancers in the UK are diagnosed at this later stage, when treatment can be more difficult and outcomes less favourable.Trucheck is designed to change that.
It looks for something called circulating tumour cells (CTCs) — fragments shed by tumours into the bloodstream, often long before symptoms appear. The test doesn’t just screen for one type of cancer; it can identify the likely organ of origin and help your GP plan any necessary follow-up quickly and precisely.
This makes Trucheck an incredibly valuable screening tool — especially for those with higher risk due to age or family history.
How Trucheck compares with the new NHS test
Both the new NHS pilot and the Trucheck test represent a shift towards more proactive, personalised cancer care. But while the NHS test is still being trialed in select regions, Trucheck is available immediately - and it’s already making a difference. Here’s how the two approaches compare:
Availability: The NHS test is still in its trial phase, limited to certain areas. Trucheck is available now — here at The Hove Practice.
Range of cancers detected: Trucheck can detect over 70 types of solid organ cancer, including many aggressive cancers not covered by routine screening. This accounts for around 81% of all cancer cases worldwide.
Technology: The NHS test works by detecting fragments of DNA shed by tumours (called cfDNA), while Trucheck looks for intact circulating tumour cells, which may provide even earlier or more reliable signals.
Precision: Trucheck can indicate the likely organ of origin, guiding faster and more accurate diagnostic follow-up.
Speed: Trucheck results are available within two weeks, and you’ll receive expert guidance every step of the way to explain what they mean and what to do next.
A simple test. A powerful safeguard.
Taking the Trucheck test is quick and easy. It’s done via a standard blood draw, which we send to a specialist lab here in the UK. If your test is negative, you can feel confident in that reassurance. If the result is positive, you’ll be supported through the next steps, helping you arrange any necessary investigations quickly through our network of trusted specialists.
